BRONX, N.Y. โ NYPD Investigating Fatal Shooting That Claimed the Life of 25-Year-Old Chanler Reams
A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Bronx as the New York City Police Department investigates a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 25-year-old Chanler Reams on Sunday evening, November 9, 2025. The incident has left a family devastated, a community shaken, and detectives searching for answers amid yet another act of senseless gun violence.
According to police, officers from the 44th Precinct responded to reports of shots fired around 8:45 p.m. near East 167th Street and Teller Avenue, a busy intersection not far from the Grand Concourse. When they arrived, they found Reams lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and upper body.
Emergency medical personnel rushed to the scene and transported him to Lincoln Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite the efforts of trauma staff to save his life. Investigators say the suspect or suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, and no arrests have yet been made.
The area was quickly cordoned off as homicide detectives and crime scene investigators worked through the night, collecting shell casings, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses. Police believe the shooting may have been targeted, but have not ruled out any possibilities, including a dispute that escalated into violence.
โWeโre asking anyone who saw or heard anything, or who may have security footage from nearby buildings, to contact us,โ said an NYPD spokesperson. โEvery piece of information helps. This young manโs family deserves justice.โ
Residents in the neighborhood described the terrifying moments following the gunfire. โI heard about six shots, one after the other,โ said a local shop owner. โWhen I looked outside, people were screaming and running. Itโs heartbreaking โ that young man was so young. Weโre tired of this violence.โ
Family members identified the victim as Chanler Reams, a bright and ambitious young man who grew up in the Bronx and was known for his kind spirit, humor, and determination. Loved ones said he was working hard to build a better life for himself and had recently started a new job.
โHe was just trying to make something of himself,โ said his cousin, tears in her eyes. โHe loved his family, loved his friends โ he didnโt deserve this. None of them do.โ
Friends flooded social media with tributes, sharing photos of Chanler smiling, laughing, and enjoying life. Many posts expressed shock and anger over the tragedy, using the hashtag #JusticeForChanler as calls for accountability and peace spread online.

Community advocates and anti-violence organizations in the Bronx have once again called for stronger action to address the ongoing gun violence plaguing the borough. โWe canโt keep normalizing young people dying in our streets,โ said Tanya Alvarez, director of a local outreach program. โEvery time we lose someone like Chanler, we lose a piece of our communityโs future.โ
Police have not released a motive, but detectives are exploring possible connections to prior altercations and are combing through nearby camera footage for leads. Authorities say tips can be made anonymously through NYPD Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
As the investigation continues, Chanlerโs family is left grappling with unbearable grief. They have described him as โa light in every room he walked intoโ โ a young man with dreams, goals, and a deep love for his family.
โHe wasnโt perfect, but he was trying,โ his mother said softly at a makeshift memorial. โHe was my son, my baby, and now heโs gone. I just want whoever did this to be caught. I want justice for my boy.โ
By Monday morning, candles, balloons, and photographs had been placed on the sidewalk where Chanler was shot, forming a growing shrine of remembrance. Friends and neighbors gathered in silence, praying, crying, and embracing one another as they mourned the loss of another young life cut short.
As the Bronx struggles to make sense of yet another tragedy, one thing remains painfully clear โ the life of 25-year-old Chanler Reams will be deeply missed, remembered by those who loved him, and honored by a community determined to seek justice in his name.
