LaGRANGE, GA — A Community in Mourning as Police Investigate the Deadly Shooting of 35-Year-Old Rashidi Grant
The quiet of a Sunday night in LaGrange was shattered by gunfire that claimed the life of 35-year-old Rashidi Grant, leaving a neighborhood heartbroken and police searching for answers. The tragic incident occurred on November 9, 2025, and has since sparked an outpouring of grief and concern across the community.
According to the LaGrange Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of McGregor Street shortly after 10:15 p.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they found Grant suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders immediately rendered aid before transporting him to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives quickly secured the area and began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage. Several residents reported hearing a series of loud pops, followed by the sound of tires screeching as a vehicle sped away from the scene. Others said they initially mistook the sounds for fireworks before realizing something far more serious had happened.
“We heard about five or six shots,” one neighbor told reporters. “When I looked outside, I saw people running and someone lying on the ground. It’s just heartbreaking — this kind of thing doesn’t usually happen here.”
Police have yet to release a possible motive or identify any suspects publicly, but investigators believe the shooting was not random. Preliminary information suggests that Rashidi may have known the person or people responsible for the attack. Detectives are pursuing several leads and reviewing nearby surveillance video to piece together the moments leading up to the fatal shooting.
“Right now, our focus is on determining exactly what led up to this tragic event and identifying those responsible,” said Lt. Dale Strickland of the LaGrange Police Department. “We are urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward. Every detail could help us bring justice to Rashidi and closure to his family.”
Family members describe Rashidi Grant as a kind, hardworking, and deeply loved man who had a passion for life and was always willing to help others. Friends say he was known for his warm smile, loyalty, and devotion to his loved ones. His sudden death has left a painful void that words cannot fill.
“This is so unreal,” said one close friend. “Rashidi didn’t deserve this. He was a good man — funny, humble, always the one to bring people together. To think that he’s gone because of senseless violence — it just hurts.”
In the days following the tragedy, community members have gathered to mourn Rashidi’s loss. A growing memorial now stands near the site of the shooting, filled with candles, flowers, balloons, and handwritten notes remembering his life.
City leaders and local pastors have also spoken out, emphasizing the urgent need to address gun violence in the community and support those struggling with loss. “We can’t keep losing our sons, brothers, and fathers to bullets,” said Pastor James Caldwell, who led a prayer vigil Monday night. “We need healing — and we need to stand together for peace.”
Authorities have assured the public that they are working tirelessly to find those responsible and bring them to justice. The LaGrange Police Department has encouraged anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigation Section or Troup County Crime Stoppers, where anonymous tips may be submitted.
As the investigation continues, Rashidi’s family is left grappling with unimaginable grief and unanswered questions. Loved ones are now planning funeral arrangements and have launched an online fundraiser to assist with burial expenses and support his two young children.
“This shouldn’t have happened to him,” Rashidi’s sister said through tears. “We just want justice — and we want people to remember who he was, not how he died.”
The LaGrange community now stands united in sorrow and remembrance, hoping that truth and justice will soon follow the tragedy that took the life of 35-year-old Rashidi Grant — a son, brother, father, and friend gone far too soon.
🕯️ Rest in peace, Rashidi. Your light will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
