In Loving Memory of Ethelyn Grubb
The Kanawha County community is united in sorrow as it mourns the heartbreaking loss of Ethelyn Grubb, an 8-year-old girl whose bright young life was tragically cut short in a devastating crash on Lens Creek Road on December 2. No words can fully capture the depth of grief felt by her family, friends, classmates, and all who have been touched by this unimaginable loss.
On that afternoon, at approximately 4:53 p.m. in the 2000 block of Lens Creek Road, a utility truck and an SUV collided head-on. The force of the impact overturned the utility truck onto its side, while the SUV came to rest in a nearby ditch. First responders from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Marmet Volunteer Fire Department, and Kanawha County EMS rushed to the scene. In an extraordinary act of compassion and courage, a passerby immediately began performing CPR on Ethelyn, refusing to give up hope until medics arrived. Despite every effort, Ethelyn’s injuries proved too severe, and her life was tragically lost.
Ethelyn was traveling with her mother, who was driving the SUV. The pain of this loss is beyond measure—a family forever changed in a single moment. What remains now is a profound sense of sorrow, accompanied by the memories of a child whose presence brought joy, warmth, and innocence into the lives of those around her.
Though only eight years old, Ethelyn’s life was already filled with meaning. She was a child of wonder and curiosity, with laughter that could brighten a room and a smile that reflected a pure and gentle heart. Like so many children her age, she carried dreams that were just beginning to take shape—dreams of growing, learning, and discovering the world. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
