In Loving Memory of David E. Shannon

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we honor the life and legacy of David E. Shannon, a 70-year-old man whose journey on this earth came to an unexpected and tragic end on December 10, 2025. David passed away at the scene of a devastating crash on US Route 62 near Orient, Ohioโ€”a moment that forever changed the lives of his loved ones and deeply touched the Pickaway County community.

According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, at 10:41 a.m., the Pickaway County Sheriffโ€™s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a serious injury crash in the area of 9976 US Route 62. The incident involved a head-on collision between a car and a semi-truck. When deputies arrived, they encountered a chaotic and heartbreaking scene that would unfold into the painful news no family ever wants to receive.

David, driving his 2023 red Dodge Ram, had been traveling eastbound when the vehicle attempted to pass another car. In that tragic moment, his truck collided head-on with a westbound 2023 white Kenworth semi-truck. The force of the impact was catastrophic, setting off a chain reaction that involved a third vehicle and left the roadway marked by devastation.

Despite the swift response of Sterling Joint Ambulance District medics, David Shannon was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passing marks an immense lossโ€”one felt deeply by his family, friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

David was more than a name in a report or a driver on the highway. He was a cherished individual whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and connection to those around him. At 70 years old, he carried with him a lifetime of memories, wisdom, and relationships that defined who he was far beyond this heartbreaking event. Whether known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, or community member, David touched the lives of many with the kind of quiet strength and sincerity that people do not forget.

In the wake of this tragedy, the community recognizes the courage and professionalism of all who responded to the scene. Sheriff Hafey extended his gratitude to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tri-County Fire Department, Sterling Joint Ambulance District, Pickaway County Coronerโ€™s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation for their efforts. Their dedication in moments of great difficulty is a testament to the commitment of first responders who serve with compassion every day.

As the Pickaway County Sheriffโ€™s Office continues its investigation into the crash, Davidโ€™s family now faces the heartbreaking task of navigating life without him. Their grief is immeasurable, and our deepest sympathies go out to them during this painful time. May they find strength in their memories of David, comfort in the support of their community, and peace in knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.

Today, we remember David E. Shannonโ€”a life ended far too soon, but a life that will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his loved ones find solace in the legacy he leaves behind.
