Officer Cooley tragically lost his life in a head-on crash while returning home from a shift โ a heartbreaking loss felt deeply by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless lives he touched.
Officer Cooley served with courage and compassion, not only as a Kaufman Police Officer, but also as the Deputy Chief of South Hunt County Fire Rescue. In both roles, he exemplified what it means to live a life of selfless service. He answered the call day and night, always willing to put himself in harmโs way to protect and care for others.
Those who knew Austin remember his unwavering dedication, his kind heart, and his quiet strength. He was more than a first responder โ he was a friend, a mentor, a protector, and a beacon of hope in times of crisis. Whether responding to emergencies, supporting fellow officers, or serving his community, he carried himself with honor and integrity.
