On the night of the accident, Mardee was traveling along S. Soncy Road when a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of W. Cemetery Road. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened after a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. Mardee, who was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
But Mardee Matlack was far more than the circumstances of her passing.
