DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ill. — Authorities in Douglas County are investigating a tragic house fire that broke out early Thursday morning in the small Village of Garrett, claiming the life of 42-year-old Jennifer M. Chandler. The devastating blaze, which tore through a residence in the quiet rural community, has left neighbors and loved ones heartbroken as investigators work to determine the cause.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene shortly before 3:30 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a structure fully engulfed in flames. When firefighters from several surrounding departments arrived, the home was already heavily involved. Despite valiant efforts to contain the inferno and search for anyone inside, responders later located Chandler’s body within the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
