The Newport community is mourning the heartbreaking and sudden loss of Brittany Wendt, who tragically passed away on December 5, 2025, following a devastating motor vehicle accident on Maple Street. Brittanyโ€™s life ended far too soon, leaving her family, friends, and all who knew her with an overwhelming sense of grief and disbelief.

At approximately 3:42 p.m., emergency responders from the Newport Police Department and Newport Fire Department arrived at the scene of a severe rollover crash involving two vehicles. Despite their immediate efforts, Brittanyโ€”an adult female and the driver of a Jeep Wranglerโ€”was pronounced deceased at the scene. Early findings from the investigation indicate that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck crossed over the centerline of Maple Street and struck Brittanyโ€™s vehicle head-on, causing it to roll over. The impact resulted in fatal injuries that claimed her life instantly.

Brittanyโ€™s passing is a profound loss. She was a woman of kindness, warmth, and quiet strengthโ€”a presence who made everyone around her feel valued and understood. Whether she was offering support to a friend, sharing a laugh with a loved one, or lending a helping hand where it was needed, Brittany lived with a genuine heart and a generous spirit. Her absence will be deeply felt in every space she once brightened.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 49-year-old Dylan Galland of East Windsor, Connecticut, was found to be impaired at the scene and was arrested for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. He is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and faces additional charges, including Negligent Homicide, with arraignment expected on December 8th at the 5th Circuit Court โ€“ District Division โ€“ Newport.

As the investigation remains in its early stages, authorities continue to gather information to fully understand the circumstances of this tragic event.
