Kent County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Homicide After 50-Year-Old Jermaine Lafel Miles Found Dead on Lovers Lane Near Chestertow

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Kent County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) is investigating a homicide after the body of a man was found on Lovers Lane, just outside Chestertown, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Authorities have identified the victim as 50-year-old Jermaine Lafel Miles of Grasonville, Maryland.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the area around 7:45 a.m. after a passerby reported discovering an unresponsive man lying along the rural roadside. When first responders arrived, they determined that the man was deceased and had suffered apparent injuries consistent with foul play.

Investigators quickly secured the area, closing off a stretch of Lovers Lane as crime scene technicians documented evidence and canvassed the scene for clues. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and Kent County Bureau of Investigation have joined the case to assist local deputies in processing evidence and conducting witness interviews.

“The circumstances surrounding Mr. Miles’s death are deeply concerning,” said Sheriff John F. Price IV. “This was not a random discovery — it’s clear that someone is responsible, and we are working around the clock to find out who.”

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. While officials have not released specific details about the nature of Miles’s injuries, detectives have confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide.

Jermaine Miles, known affectionately as “Maine” by those who knew him, was a longtime resident of Queen Anne’s County and a father of three. Friends and family describe him as hardworking, outgoing, and devoted to his loved ones. “Jermaine had a big heart,” said family friend Renee Johnson. “He was the kind of person who made you laugh and would always lend a helping hand. This is just devastating.”

Residents of Chestertown and surrounding communities expressed shock at the news, noting that violent crime is rare in the small Kent County town. “It’s unsettling,” said neighbor Michael Harris, who drives Lovers Lane daily. “You never expect something like this to happen here.”

Law enforcement officials have not released information regarding a potential motive or suspect, but investigators are urging anyone with knowledge about Miles’s movements prior to his death to come forward. They are particularly interested in information about any vehicles or suspicious individuals seen in the area late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

“This investigation is still in its early stages,” said Sheriff Price. “Every piece of information — no matter how small — could be vital in bringing justice to Mr. Miles and his family.”

Community leaders and local clergy are planning a vigil to honor Miles’s memory and offer support to his grieving family. “We will not let this tragedy define our town,” said Pastor Gerald Thompson of Mount Olive Baptist Church. “We will unite in love, prayer, and determination to see justice served.”

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Kent County Sheriff’s Office at 410-778-2279 or Crime Solvers of the Upper Eastern Shore at 1-800-477-0095. Callers may remain anonymous.

As investigators continue their search for answers, the Kent County community remains heartbroken — mourning the loss of a beloved son, father, and friend whose life was taken far too soon.
